Welcome to Berlin

With input from teachers and school children, the three former founders of Meininger Hotels developed the most modern hotel for class trips in Berlin: The Schulz Hotel. Customized to the specific requirements of class trips, Schulz unites various special features of hotels, hostels and apartments. The end result is a perfect price-performance ratio, highest safety standards and versatile offers to meet all your needs.

A home away from home. This, ideally, is what we want to be for guests who come to Berlin on a school trip or graduation trip to mark the end of secondary school. “I have rarely been welcomed so warmly … the staff was like a family welcoming you home”. This is what Andrea, who stayed with us in October 2018, wrote.  At the same time, Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall wants to convey social values to young people: Everyone is welcome – and we want everyone to feel at home. Youth travel groups and students on study trips are received very informally by our international team at our lounge, the Schulz Arena.

Infotainment throughout the hotel informs guests about the things that drive us: A cosmopolitan society as well as tolerance, education and equal opportunity. To help advance equal opportunity in education, we cooperate closely with teachers from the local Freudberg Community School. This school was founded by one of the hotel’s managing directors and receives on-going support from us. Beyond this, Schulz Hotels is always looking for ways to get involved in social issues and help drive progress on sustainability: Many of our products are organic or Fairtrade quality; we draw environmentally-friendly electricity from Greenpeace Energy; 5 % of our overall profit is donated to social projects and our staff may spend part of their working hours on social projects. We want to serve as a model for students and youths who visit Berlin as part of an educational trip.

A school trip to Berlin? A safe bet!

Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall was already conceived with the needs of youth groups and students on class trips in mind. This allows us to offer comfort and safety without compromising on the cordial, welcoming character of our accommodations.  It begins already on your journey to the hotel (arriving on your own is also uncomplicated):  Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall is located right across from Ostbahnhof, a transport hub where you can access city-wide public transportation services along with regional and long-distance trains. School groups arriving in Berlin per bus, train or plane can thus reach us quickly and conveniently. There’s even a bus bay in front of the hotel so pupils can safely and comfortably enter the hotel with their baggage.

Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall conforms to highest building standards.  A key card is required to access the guest room levels. This helps us ensure that only guests can enter this area. Our reception is staffed around the clock and supports guests with all their questions. The hotel assigns a point of contact for all school groups. Security personnel are present in the late evening and night hours.

Group restaurant in Berlin for hungry young guests

Playing table football, chillin‘, listening to music – our 100 m² student lounge, to so-called “Schulz Arena”,  is available to all youth groups staying at the hotel and allows our young guests to remain amongst themselves during their class outing if they so please. Graffiti art by local and genuine street artists creates an appealing atmosphere for young people. The lounge can also be used by teachers and students for meetings or parties.  The library in the hotel lobby is a great spot where teachers can prepare for upcoming excursions with their student groups: In addition to work spaces, the hotel also makes computers and printers available. Numerous books are available for browsing at your leisure, with a focus on literature from the former East Germany. There’s a book exchange shelf where students might even find a book of interest for the evening hours.

And what can you do when you are overcome by hunger after an exciting day of sightseeing? No problem! Our group restaurant, The Hungry Bear, awaits students with delicious lunch and/or dinner buffets – depending on whether the full-board or half-board option was booked by the school trip organizers. The buffet offers international and German choices that changes on a daily basis. There are menu options for vegetarians and individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Our breakfast buffet, with organic products, breakfast rolls, muesli and fresh vegetables, is included in the price for school class bookings. Packed lunches are prepared for student groups on excursions. Portuguese specialties and Fairtrade Schulz Coffee can be enjoyed at Café Martha in the lobby.

Affordable group accommodation in Berlin

With our comfortable and flexible rooms, we aim for the right mix between youth hostel, hostel and hotel so you can enjoy a relaxed and cozy atmosphere on your class trip. In contrast to standard youth hostels, you won’t find a mass dormitory at Schulz Hotel; our rooms have no more than three or four beds. All rooms feature high-speed Wi-fi, USB ports and an own bathroom. High security standards guarantee a suitable lodging experience for all our young guests.

Teachers and students are lodged on the same floor and thus always within easy reach of one another. At the same time, teachers will find a restful haven in their single or double rooms after an exciting day in the city.  Insulated windows keep noise out and ensure restful sleep. A workplace along with a Smart TV helps guests unwind and find some pleasant distraction in the evening.

Our group accommodation in Berlin comes with affordable prices and promotions – this way we make sure, that everyone can afford their school outing to Berlin.

Recommendations for your school trip itinerary

Regardless of whether you are scheduling 3 or 5 days for your class trip to Berlin, you will find plenty to discover! This is, after all, a city where politics, history and culture meet in a way that you won’t find in any other German city.  With Ostbahnhof train station right at your doorstep it’s convenient to get to Berlin’s many memorials, landmarks and sights, and easy to pursue an itinerary with your own special focus. We have compiled a list of recommended sights as follows below:

  • East Side Gallery: This preserved and original part of the Berlin Wall is located right next to Schulz hotel.
  • Museum Island:  These five museums – housed in a magnificent building ensemble on an island in the Spree River – are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Brandenburg Gate:  In close proximity to Berlin’s famous landmark you will also find the Reichstag building, the Federal Chancellery and the Holocaust Memorial.
  • Alexanderplatz:  Berlin’s best-known public square features the “World Clock“along with numerous shops and restaurants.
  • Potsdam:  The neighboring State of Brandenburg’s capital.  Sanssouci Palace and the Babelsberg Film Studio are located here in Potsdam, which is easily reached from Schulz hotel via Ostbahnhof railway station.
  • Lake Wannsee:  A lakeside beach and boat excursions feel just right on warm summer days. For students on a school history trip: Combine it with an educational stop at the museum House of the Wannsee Conference.
  • Friedrichshain/Kreuzberg: Starting from Schulz hotel, these two trendy neighborhoods can easily be reached by foot. Berlin’s sub-culture center with lots of art galleries and music.

A safe graduation trip to Berlin

A final outing with your school class to Berlin is meant to be a very special experience. There is, after all, a lot to celebrate for students who have just wrapped up their secondary school education. Apart from a multitude of world class museums and memorials, there’s also Berlin’s legendary nightlife to discover. D light Parties, for example, are organized by the hip nearby “Club Matrix”.  Here the dispensing of alcoholic beverages is supervised to provide a safe environment for kids on class trips.

At Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall the dispensing of alcoholic beverages is also supervised. We don’t want the fun to get out of hand: Prior to the class trip, teachers and authorized guardians can decide whether or not alcohol can be served (in compliance with age restrictions, of course) to students. Wristbands will make it easy for the hotel staff to recognize this.

Enjoy your class trip to Berlin!

GDR library

Many still know him from his days as an inspector in the popular and long-running TV-show “Tatort”. Today the actor Peter Sodann is busy collecting the dreams and tears of the socialist East – as captured in books from the former East Germany. Anyone interested in browsing them will now find a cross-section of his collection in the Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall library.

Sleepover instead of champagne,

For its hotel opening in August 2018, Schulz Hotels and its partners gave Berlin school classes the opportunity to take a new look at their hometown. About 250 students and teachers from different parts of the city were given a free night, as well as a two-day cultural program. Kristina Fischer, the director of a secondary school in Berlin, was part of it.

Diversity is cool,

Canadians think. We spoke with Klaudiane and Shawn from Montréal about multiculturalism and the impact on the business world. Together with other business students from the HEC Montréal University, the two 25-year-olds are staying at the Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall to get to know Berlin's start-up scene and to better understand the German mentality.
